My name is Andrew Everett. I am a student at Seattle University and have been loving the culture of Capital Hill in Seattle. I am a Political Science major. Within this major, domestic and foreign issues are constantly discussed and LGBTQ+ Rights are no exception. I was able to bring in a political voice and historic information into this mostly data driven website. For one of classes, I was asked to tackle an issue and give it global perspective. In this class I was quite interested in the Utopian desires individuals have in their attempts to create a "perfect" society. Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg made me ashamed of our national history of marginalizing the LGBTQ+ community and drove me to dive into this topic more. This research, inspired from in course texts, made me want to contribute to awareness of this growing oppression and maybe inspire some change to end this demeaning, intolerant and historical marginalization. Because of the class, I have become a more aware citizen who is cognizant of the issues that surround him and motivated to make a difference. Having many friends and family members in the community, I made the choice to dive into LGBTQ+ rights across the United States in particular, and the World in general. My bias, prevalent at times, comes form a liberal point of view. I believe my positions on creating an equal society should be shared by all. This is the purpose of this website. My own view for a world with universal equality may be utopian itself and could be seen as dystopic by other individuals, in the sense that their religious and personal convictions cannot enter into public policy. Having equality for all is a classically dystopian theme in many pieces of literature. But if living in a world where everyone has the same right to be open and honest with they are without the fear to persecuted and harmed is a dystopia to some people, that is definitely a dystopia I am comfortable promoting. I hope you enjoy the website!
